Napatech NT40E2-4 enables new 10Gbe network analysis deployments

ANDOVER, Massachusetts, October 5, 2011 – Napatech, the largest provider of intelligent network adapters, today announced details of its recently announced 4 x 10Gbps Ethernet network adapter, the NT40E2-4. With one of the most comprehensive feature sets available, the NT40E2-4 supports complex deployment scenarios supporting a unique and wide range of network analysis, test and security applications, literally out-of-the-box.

The NT40E2-4 is designed for both Ethernet and SONET/SDH operation supporting both Ethernet LAN and WAN PHY standards. It can also be deployed for passive packet capture based on taps or span ports, for active in-line packet analysis and can also be used for multi-port traffic generation.

With four 10 GbE ports, the NT40E2-4 provides a number of advantages:

  • Higher port density allowing double the number of links or connections to be monitored and analyzed
  • Higher precision correlation of network monitoring information at multiple points in the network

Higher port density reduces the system cost per port for network appliances and allows new deployment possibilities. Two ports are needed for passive packet capture on a single connection using taps, while two ports are also required for active in-line analysis of a single connection; one port for ingress traffic and the other for egress traffic. By doubling
the number of connections that can be supported, it is possible to simultaneously analyze related connections, such as signaling paths or backup/failover connections.

The NT40E2-4 provides nanosecond resolution time-stamping and hardware merge of port data. This allows high precision correlation of information from two separate connections. This is useful for high precision latency measurement and throughput performance measurement of network nodes.

The NT40E2-4 provides the same comprehensive feature set as the 2 x 10 Gbps NT20E2 and 1 x 40 Gbps NT40E2-1 allowing plug-and-play compatibility with existing installations as well as the ability to upgrade to 40 GbE when required.
